Is it legal for my carrier to sell my new number to telemarketers?

We just got a new phone provider (landline) through charter communications, and have within 48 hours been flooded with telemarketer calls, and they all have our name and other information. Is this legal? How can they get away with this?|||Get on the national do not call list. It is free.|||One thing you have to remember is that if you do not pay an additional fee every month to have your phone number unlisted, they can get your phone number out of the phone book. There are tons of websites that you can go to to get a list of all the phone numbers belonging to a specific area code.

You need to read the fine print of the contract with your phone carrier and make sure that it states that they do NOT do that. If it doesn't state in the contract that they don't sell your information then they may be doing that. I know that my carrier (Rogers in Ontario Canada) states in their contract that they do NOT sell your telephone number to 3rd party telemarketers and such.

One problem I had when I first got my phone number was that it was a recycled number. Meaning that it used to belong to someone else before me. I was getting phone calls at like 3 am froma cab company asking to pick someone up at a completely different address. I was so ticked that I called ROgers and had them change my phone number. Within a couple of days I was getting telemarketing calls. I then called Rogers and had them make my number unlisted and I only pay an additional $2 CDN for that on my monthly bill.

Call your carrier and ask them if your number is recycled or a completely new number.

If its not a recylced number and it not unlisted, they very well could be getting it from the phone book. I used to work in call center and thats where they get their info from.

Sorry to be the barer of bad news.

Good luck!|||https://www.donotcall.gov/

Sign up for that do not call list or just tell them to remove you from their lists and never call again. The only ones that can call you after being on that list are ones you have business with. Just because they have that doesn't mean the phone company gave it to them. Once your number is listed anyone can get it|||put your number on the do not call list

www.donotcall.gov/

it takes about a month then they are not supost to call you anymore

they use to bother me alot now they dont call anymore freedom|||yeah - it's in the agreement that you sign, ergo the phrase "small print"|||Yes- that's why you get on the no call list!|||i think it is

i think once youve joined with them and they have all your info they can do whatever they want with it since youre in a contract with them

its really stupid though

Somone keeps calling me under private caller, is there any way i can call them back?

I have Charter Communications for my phone.|||no!! not if they use *67 to call you, but you can use *77 ACR anonymous call rejection....and that will stop the calls getting thru!!|||If the harassment keeps up, do what I did--report it and get the number(s) traced.

Can i hook my cable box to my home network lan?

I noticed my new 4640hdc cable box has an Ethernet port. The owners manual says this can be used to hook to a lan for "advanced services with retail purchased devices." The charter communications reps swear this is incorrect but frankly i don't believe them. I am looking to maybe use my PC as a dvr or even use my tablet as a remote control like fios does with the ipad. Anything is possible right? Any info is helpful.|||No, Charter approves of what the OS on the STB can do. If they haven't authorized any services to use the Ethernet port, it won't do anything.

How can I sell cable, internet, phone service and upgrades door to door without looking like a salesman?

I'm not scamming people. I work for Charter Communications.

I don't know what to say without going right for the sell.|||You should start with word of mouth, and have referrals. It'll make it a lot easier if you start off with just friends and family and branch off from them. If you can "sell" the product to them, and they are satisfied in how you presented the product, they will most likely tell other people. Don't be too forward.|||If you don't want to look like a salesman, wear a clown suit. But seriously, if you can't think of the right thing to say to get your foot in the door, you probably aren't cut out for door-to-door sales.

How can I view my home computer's internet history?

We have 3 computers running on wireless internet off of one router.

Aside from checking the browser history, is there any other way of attaining internet history logs (basically, what computer viewed what site and at what time)? We use Charter Communications.

|||press CTRL SHIFT J on your keyboard then click history |||i have no idea what your trying to say.

but, i just go to the little favorite button in the top left cornor in my computer and hit history which is to the right of favorites

then i click 'today' and you can see everything you did today,

it might work for you.

Can you collect a judgment after the company files bankruptcy?

I sued Charter communications in small claims court for breach of contract and won. Now that they have filed bankruptcy can I still collect my judgment? If so how? I've tried to collect for the last year and they keep giving me the run around.|||You become a creditor in line with all their other creditors. Just getting the judgment does not mean you collect the cash.|||don't expect to get more than a small fraction if any

How do i connect another computer to my existing cable modem?

ok i have bought a new desktop, but want to connect my old desktop in a different room, what do i need to have to do this ? i have charter communications cable internet, i only have one modem for this service, please help.|||Everyone is giving you correct info but you can also use a Ad-hoc network to do this. This would be done buy using wireless adaptors on both PC's to create a wireless network between computers. This is a little technical and not easy for a beginner. If you get a router (the easiest thing to do) you may want to get a wireless router so you do not need to run ethernet cable thru your home to the other computer. Also consider, unless the pc is a Mac it will need a wireless adaptor to connect to the wireless router and please be sure to remember to secure your new wireless router so you neibors are not sharing your network.|||You have to buy a router.

The router will connect the wan plug to the cable modem.

Then you can connect as many computers to the Lan side as you want.|||What Bryon said.|||you will need to buy a cable router and connect it to the modem. Then connect all your machines to the router.|||Ya Bryon is right|||Use a router. You can get one at Office Depot for about $40|||You have to buy a router, but keep in mind there are various type of routers. There is the kind that you connect a computer to it but you have to route the cable to the other room. The other one is wireless so that you can connect computers anywhere in the house with out any wiring.|||Get a wireless router %26amp; an adapter.

How to connect my wii to the internet?

I only have a DESKTOP computer, and high speed internet through Charter Communications that's hooked up through a modem that I rent from the company. What do I need to get in order to hook up the internet to my wii?? Is there anyway I can get a wireless connection? What do I need to buy?|||First of all, I would get a router. Connect your modem to that router, and set it up. After you've named your wireless connection and set up the encryption, go turn on the wii and go to internet connections. Select add wireless connection, and select yours. Enter the encryption, let the wii run some tests and your good to go =) .

Here's the router that I reccomend:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B鈥?/a>

P.S. Choose the one from buy.com|||Your simplest solution is the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Wi-Fi_USB_Connector

They sell those at any game store and it allows you to connect the Wii via your PC... assuming you run Windows.

If it were me though (I don't run Windows at home) then I would buy a wireless router and set it up to connect to the modem. It costs more and requires effort though.

Doing research on a stock. What are the 5 major parameters in deciding whether to buy or sell?

or pass on a stock? Can you use Charter Communications and Apple as examples? I continually see P/E ratio. What would be a good P/E for Charter and a good P/E for Apple and where would I find that information?|||Apple

1.) Earnings Per Share - According to Investors Business Daily, Apple has a 98 ranking on earnings per share; this means Apple has had earnings growth better than 98% of all companies that are publicly traded, it is in the highest 2% as far as growth.

2.) Accumulation - According to Investors Business Daily, on a scale from A-E Apple has an "E" rating on accumulation, meaning the shares have been sold off recently more than most companies, more investors have been selling share of Apple in the short term, ideally you want stocks that are being acculmulated:

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=AAPL%26amp;t=3鈥?/a>

3.) Institutional Sponorship - Ideally you want a stock that is being accumulated by large institutions such as banks, insurance companies, pension funds, etc. These investors have the big money needed to move stocks higher upon accumulation of large blocks. Apple's institutional sponorship is 68%; ideally you want this to be between 70-90% showing that leading mutual funds have been buying the stock.

4.) Market Conditions - Market has been in a correction over the last few weeks, but seems to be poised to rally back, ideally you do not to want to purchase stocks when the market is on a downward spiral, as the keep going down. A rising tide lifts all boats.

5.) New products, services or management: these can spark new sales and revenues or ideas and should factor into weather one buys a stock ahead of future earnings and prospects.

Does Anyone else hate Charter Communication?

These guys have a horrible retentions service. They just keep raising rates and have bad customer service!!!|||If this were a competitive market you would simply take your business elsewhere, wouldn't you? Unfortunately your local government probably granted them an exclusive franchise, which means your choices may be pretty limited right now. One more reason why government should stay out of these things.|||they think they can get away with raising rates every few months and they do. in my area they are the ONLY cable provider unless you have a dish.|||Had Charter in St. Louis for years. I switched to satelite (DirectTV) three years ago and am well pleased with the upgrade.

Telivision advertising costs through Charter??

I'm doing a project on a local restaurant in my town. We have to advertise realistically and i need to know how much it costs to run a 30 second commercial through Charter Communications.|||It depends on the market, the network, time period (are you looking for ROS? prime time, 6a-12m?), length of contract, etc. Each local market decides it's rates, generally they use a sliding scale (if they have a lot of inventory on a network it'll cost less, but as they begin to sell out space on a network the rate will normally increase). Are you looking for the costs to produce the commercial also?

Go to www.chartermedia.com and contact the local Charter Media office, tell them what you are doing and what you're looking for any of the Account Executives should be able to send you a rate card.

As with most cable companies the advertising side is run essentially like a separate business.

Can you hack the Motorola DVR from charter?

Charter communication, the worst experience at costumer service in my life, has provided me with a Motorola-

http://broadband.motorola.com/dvr/bmc901鈥?/a>

DVR box but ALL the digital transfer outputs are disabled. USB 1 %26amp; 2 as well as the eathernet adaptor. When I called for an expplanation I was told rudely that Charter "Was not in the biz of pirating programing!". Yes, she raised her voice.

Any info on enabling the ports or is it a MOXI software issue?

Now, if I wanted to transfer programing I recorded to a portable device, I would need to build a MythTV box.|||Dont know about that model specifically but Head over to http://dealdatabase.com/forum/ . If its doable the info will be there. Word of warning, they are not very newbie friendly so spend a few hours reading before you even consider asking a question.|||I think it's based on firmware. When I first got my DVR, nothing was enabled and then one day, I suddenly had everything enabled plus more games and features. Try contacting customer support via chat or email on charter.com. I have alwasy got more help from the web chats and email than the reps on the phone.

Does anyone know the website address for the Charter Cable rewards program?

Charter communications has ran a few TV ads saying that you can get points to redeem for merchandise just by using charter services. I had wrote down the website address but lost it. Anyone who knows it please tell me.|||Hi from France 鈾?br>

Type '' Charter Cable rewards program '' on Google, it will find for you, I think...

OK..I have a Charter internet connection..Is my computer protected from virus's?? Any free downloads?

I was told that I needed internet protection....I have Charter Communications for internet service...Never had protection before...I have a new computer that wants me to protect with NORTON...I thought Charter provided virus protection...Should I download virus protection? Not sure what I should do?? THanks.|||charter provides a firewall to prevent things getting into their system. but you can still get viruses from attachments sent to you through web sever, which will make to your computer. symantic or norton will do. |||Alright, first of all, no ISP (Internet Service Provider) such as Charter provides free Antivirus, since it is on the server side with no proxies. And my suggestion - don't use Norton. Resource hog. If you're looking for a free alternative, go ahead and download Avast! Antivirus, or AVG. (Google will help). Good luck!|||for free protection i would recommend:

Charter cable baseball package?

if anyone has charter communications cable. is there a baseball package and if so, how much does it cost? cus quite frankely, i cant stand the cardinals and thats all i can see besides every few nights of espn.|||Charter offers Extra Innings, the same package available through most cable companies. I'm not sure that they've released pricing for this season, but chances are the early-bird price will be in the $150 range.

You'll get about 1,000 games, including about 90% of the Yanks, Sox and Dodgers games. It's well worth the money if you love baseball.

Wifi charter cable wont work?

Ok so I have charter communications and its basic cable stuff. I have internet going in a modem and through my linksys wifi router. My laptop says I have bars but no internet acess. The modem is very old. Like 7 year. Is that why it doesnt work?|||Unplug the power to the modem and the router.

Who can help me if I feel I'm being worked over by my cable company, Charter Communications?

I've paid my bills every month and they're telling me that I owe for the month of April even though they never mentioned anything about in May when I paid my bill? Basically, what should be a $115 bill is now $312 and I can't get a straight answer as to why. I feel the operators (working from a phone center in the Phillippines) were taking advantage of the language barrier by throwing A LOT of numbers at me and then acting confused when asked a simple question. Who can I talk to, to get a straight answer?|||First of all, if you paid the bill in April, you should have some evidence of that.

When you call customer service, say very nicely that you want to speak with someone who has English as a first language. Apologize and say that you are having problems understanding what is being said.

Get someone on the phone and get an address or fax where you can send the evidence that you did indeed pay the bill in April.

If that doesn't work, call Charter and go through the system like you are a brand new customer looking to set up new service. Get a supervisor on the phone and state that you ARE a customer who is getting jerked around by customer service and that you want some assistance to resolve the matter once and for all.

If that doesn't work, get in the phonebook in the blue pages in the center of the book. Look under the State listings and contact the State Attorney General Office of Consumer Affairs. There should be a local or an 800 number. They will send you a complaint form that you complete and return, then they will contact Charter on your behalf.

Most businesses HATE to hear from the Attorney General and will speedily resolve the matter to put it to rest.|||It might help to go to the local office. Just show up with all your documentation. the one here in Reno is on Prototype Dr.

They might not have a phone any more since the Phillipine thing.|||Same thing happened to me here in the Philippines, but I keep my receipt and after taking it to the company they adjusted my bill accordingly. Boy is cable that high in U.S. my bill monthly is about $10.00, I get all the premium chs plus about 70 other. I also know what you mean about those 1-800 numbers, when I call my bank in U.S. I get India, and I can not understand those clerks English there, so I changed over to Credit Union who answer their own phone. No more big companies for me. Keep those receipts. If they want give satisfaction go the the Better Business Bureau and complain, if that dont work threaten to take them to court with a lawyer (that works here in the Philippines).

How do i stop my brother from changing wifi settings for my charter communications internet?

He keeps changing the password without my information and ends up leeching off most of the internet use. I cant even watch a youtube video and my internet speed is supposed to be at 18 mb/s. He just keeps contacting them and they reset the password for him. any answer with helpful info would be much appreciated.|||you can prevent that computer from accessing the internet by ether changing the password to the internet and the modem/router and not tell him ether one or you can block his mac address (the physical address of the computer, nothing to do with apple) on the modem/router.

both of these methods are different for every model of router so I cant give direction on how to do it and both can be worked around by resetting the modem/router.

getting a modem/router other than the one that your ISP gave you will prevent him from getting the info from your ISP but may be a little difficult to get working on your internet.|||Set it up so that your brother does not have administrative access to your computer. Set up a guest account and change the password to your administrators access.

As a guest your brother will only be able to make limited changes to your computers settings.|||You can do one of two things. One call up the company and tell them your situation and say that if he ever callz again that you need to be contacted immediately. Or you can just kill him lol...whatever you dont do that.

I got a warning from Charter Communications today?

The letter said I've downloaded illegal files (i.e movies such as Medea Goes to Jail and Deja Vu). But, I haven't EVER downloaded any movie files. I'm confused? I went through all my files, and didn't find a single video file. The music files were songs from CDs I bought from stores and uploaded them to the computer. I had some music sharing softwares installed, but I'd never used most of them. I deleted those.

Still, why would I get a warning if I haven't downloaded those movies?|||Are you using a router? If yes is it secure?

If it is not secure neighbors could be using your internet service/IP address.|||RIAA and MPAA do file sharing sweeps, they have agents attempting to download copyrigthed files on most P2P networks, when they find one available for download, they record the IP address of the sharing computer, the problem with this method is that most high speed users normally have dynamic IP addresses, that is, numbers that change and are reused by different subscribers. someone that at one point had those files was detected but when charter recieved the infringement notice, the IP number had been randomly assigned to you. if you have never shared those files you can just disregard the warnings.|||Ive never heard of a company mistaking someone of downloading a torrent but either you did or your husband/roommate/kid/whatever did or if you have wireless internet and its unsecured someone could have gotten on and downloaded it using your connection.

When is Charter starting date with Epix?

Charter communications when are they starting to carry Epix channel what date specific?|||It started on April 26th. Ask your local area for specific channel. The online portion will not start until July, but you can go to charter.net/epix for a trial run until then.

Charter Communications just sent me a bill for $957. Past due was only like $356, now "Adjusts" increased it.

They came to pick up all of my boxes including DVR, etc. The only thing left were 2 remotes.

I had a past due amount of around $357 which I intended to pay but now it went to collections agency according to the bill, and under adjusts all of a sudden is added $657. Surely this is not the collections bill? And surely they will settle for less? My credit is already going down the drain because I lost a major source of income and so am in debt to credit cards.|||It appears they added the fees in case they were unable to re-posses the equipment.

When they came and picked it up did you get a receipt for the equipment?

Once the cable equipment is returned, they usually adjust the amount due back to the original balance, minus any fees for picking up the equipment.|||A collection agency will ususally settle for less. Find out if you return the other 2 remotes if they will reduce it anymore. Also, pay them by money order only and tell them you don't have a checking account. If they get that info then its an asset for them to go legal on you and get a judgement and then one day seize all your money out of your bank account. No assets, no legal... Pay them money order only, never tell them where you work and call them from a pay phone and order a cease of all calls to you, your neighbors or relatives. I happen to know all of this because I use to work for a collection agency. Try to settle or if it gets too bad with your credit going down the drain then go to google.com and type in legalhelpers.. good luck (Charters not that great anyway!)

I don't want to rent Charter's modem anymore. Can my Dell computer modem work instead?

We currently rent a modem that connects us to the Internet through Charter Communications. Do we need this modem or will the modem in my Dell Inspiron 530S work?|||You need a cable modem. The one inside your Dell computer will not work - its not a cable modem. If you don't want to rent one from Charter, go to Best Buy and buy your own for $50.|||Dell doesn't make a modem....So whatever you're referring to is not a modem, most likely the tower. You can buy any modem from any retail store, but you have to look into what speeds it can handle, and the durability. If you're lucky you can get a modem to last 10 years but they usually only last 1-5 years. Once you own your modem and it stops working, breaks, etc., you are responsible to buy a new one. Charter will not support your equipment anymore. We will still help you with any signal problems.

Charter communications - internet?

I had a modem and connected it to a wireless router but now I broke my notebook computer and have a desktop. How do I get my direct modem to work without the wireless? I know how to connect it and all but I have to do something inside the computer(software). I can't figure it out. help plz.|||all you need to do is run a cable from the network card on the PC to one of the open ethernet ports on the router and you should be good to go.,|||You might need to use the "Internet Connection Wizard" to tell your Desktop how to connect... it will require some basic info from your provider as in username etc. You can get to it by opening your IE Browser and then "Tools" then "Internet Options" and @ the openend window Select the "Connections" tab and then "Setup" button. Hope this helps and God Bless

AT&T or Charter Communications?

I HATE both. Unfortunately, I have to pick one, because they're the only ones who are going to be servicing my new home. Which are the lesser of the two evils? Any advice? Thanks!|||AT%26amp;T is a sure thing, Charter is OK but not as reliable, like during cable and power outage.

They are a phone company, they breed evil...LOL|||I think I'd rather pick the local cable company doing phones that the local telco doing cable. Charter has the $70 a month bundle for a year, and, I'm sure the service is VERY basic, but it's a start. Just be sure to read the fine print. At least with cable, you're not going to be nickel and dimed to death and have to pay the USF, Subcriber Line Access and those other hidden fees that the telco doesn't remember to mention when they give you a rate.|||Funny you ask this. Today, I just switched to AT%26amp;T. The first reason is the price. Charter was charging us around $65-67 for JUST internet alone. AT%26amp;T will be $40, probably $45 with taxes and other fees. The other reason is because Charter service sucks. I've had them for three years or so and I ALWAYS have freaking problems with them. For the past two weeks, the internet just goes and comes whenever it likes. When you call them, it's not very helpful.

Good luck in whatever you choose.|||well at%26amp;t have good service. but, they are kinda pricey. well at least they are in my area. i have charter but i would rather have at%26amp;t. if your looking price wise, i would go with charter communications. but my personal opinion would be to go with at%26amp;t|||I would go with AT%26amp;T is a heart beat. Think about who you want handling your calls in an emergency. No electricity no telephone service from the cable box.|||hmmmm

If I call my ISP, will they change my IP address upon request (I have Charter Communications)?

Although I have a dynamic IP address, I've had this same IP address for at least a year. It won't change...I've tried every "home" methods to change it...from resetting my router to going to Comman Prompt.

Anyway, I have Charter and I don't think I can do anything about this IP address because it is assigned to me from something called a DHCP (sorry, I'm just learning this now, so I don't know really what I'm talking about here).

I got a new online job recently...and they checked my IP address to be free of any Spam Blacklists and they found me guilty of one called a DNSbl (I think) and they said that in order to work for them, I have to be 100% clean off of any blacklists. I suspect that this has been the working of my neighbor who has been using my internet (it's unsecured) to do sketchy things.

I am going to secure my wireless internet as soon as possible, but do you think the ISP will do their part and change my internet IP address?|||Charter is unable to change your IP address. That is very odd that it hasn't changed since it should be changing all the time. They can however tell you how many IP's are connecting to you modem; there should only be one. I would definitely make your wireless secured ASAP if you suspect someone stealing internet from you.|||Being of any spam blacklists is a superior idea

Could someone here tell me their experiences with Charter cable?

I'm thinking on bundling my internet and cable together through Charter communications. Dish Network etc. isn't an option because satellites aren't allowed at my complex. I could care less about the number of channels I get. I'm more interested in the internet services.

So could you tell me some, or all, of the following?

1. What have the prices been like, with taxes and fees?

2. How was your service?

3. Would you recommend them, or do you have other options (My phone company can't provide high speed internet to the area)?|||IT IS ILLEGAL FOR AN APARTMENT COMPLEX TO DENY YOU THE RIGHT TO HAVE A SATELLITE DISH, however, they may say you can have one, but often make the addendum impossible to follow.

charter is good for the price, try broadbandoffers.com to see about bundle specials|||Cable can at least do hi speed. I'm still waiting for Qwest to lay fiber optic so I can get over 1.5M DSL, supposedly within a year. So I'm considering cable (comcast) broadband. If you don't care about what or how many channels you get then you might as well go with cable instead of satellite and "bundle" to "save" (as if).

Is charter communications still bankrupt?

Yes. Charter has filed chapter 11, like GM and Six Flags...Bankrupt but trying to pay off a "debt"...

What is the email symbol on charter cable box?

There is a email symbol on my charter communication cable box that its lit up... what does it mean?

How do i check it on my charter remote?|||You've got mail.

Read the electronic mail message they have sent you. It is accessed via the remote and read on the TV screen. Try the info button.|||It means the provider has left you a message on the box message system.

There should be an option in the root box menu.

Has anyone received a $150 gift card offer from charter communications and actually got the gift card?

I had some problems with charter, not only did they keep hanging up on me when i called to fix problems on my billing statement (their mistakes), or kept me on hold for over an hour never resolving my problem. But then i get a $150 gift card offer from them were i have a choice out of 20 different businesses i could chose one for the gift card. i was just curious if anyone has ever had this offer and actually recieved the gift card...LET ME KNOW PLEASE :)|||Well that's charter for you! You're not the only one. It's a joke, i've been considering changing to sat tv just so i don'tt have to deal with them anymore. But to answer your question i never got my gift card. I sent in the post card with my selection 2 months ago. I stillhaven'tt gotten my gift card.|||I never got mine either. Does anyone out there in cyber land have Charter Security Suite from Charter Communications in WI?

My Mother's internet provider last week updated her security suite for her PC and ever since she has gotten several error on page messages, also Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library with a red circled X Runtime Error! Program: This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way-Please contact the applications support team for more info, and then finally Program: ...es\ Charter High-Speed Security Suite\ Common\ FSHDLL.EXE

I've gone on Microsoft's Support page and have found out how to fix these items, but it's my Mother's computer and she's afraid it will screw everything up with all of what we had to do in the last several days, because we couldn't get on the internet either, so they told us to Unload and Reload the Charter Security Suite and we did, and now do have internet service again, but still have these other errors that I want to fix for her!!!! Thanks!!!!|||I would definitely contact charter security , They may have a patch that you need. ~

Charter Communications Coupon Codes?

What's the question?

Dell Laptop won't connect to Charter Communications internet. I have a Netgear router. Limited or no comm.?

I basically said everything in the title, but I will go into greater detail.

I have a Compaq desktop with a netgear router that connects to Charter. It works fine.

Up until yesterday, My laptop won't connect to the router. It says limited or no connectivity.

It started acting up when I tried to connect my nintendo DS to the same connection, but the DS wouldn't connect, so I just gave up.

But then, my laptop wouldn't connect, and it would say limited or no connectivity.

What do I do?|||Did you connect the DS to the LAN port on the router or to the WAN port? It sounds a little like the DS is actually connected to the cable modem instead of the router.

The modem should be connected to the WAN port on the router, and everything else connects to the LAN ports or via wireless to the router. The router will configure all of the other devices via DHCP.

"Limited or no connectivity" means the DHCP service on the router is not configuring the computer for some reason.

Turn EVERYTHING off.

Check that the connections are as above.

Turn on the modem and wait for its lights to stabilize. Give it 2 minutes or so.

Turn on the router and give it 2 minutes or so to stabilize.

Turn on the computer and try again.

Turn on the DS.

If that doesn't work, you may have to reset the router to its factory defaults. If you do that, be sure to set up your wireless security again.

I signed a contract with Charter communications when I was 17 (in Texas). They tell me I owe them money, do I?

I was either 16 or 17 years old when I signed this contract, and it is now years later, and when I tried getting Charter service, I was told I owe them nearly 800 dollars. It turns out that my ex (who I was living with) kept the DVR unit, and since my name was on the contract/bill, I was footed with the bill. I was under 18, and as I understand, contracts are not legally binding. I did NOT use the service in any way after I turned 18, and in fact moved to another state after we broke up.

I also found out that this has damaged my credit a bit, and they technically did that illegally, seeing as how the contract was never valid to begin with. So, besides not having to pay them, could I also take legal action against Charter or the collection agency for damaging my credit/charging me off to a collection agency without my having ever entered into a legally binding contract? Also, I was not an emancipated minor, as I was still receiving money from my dad, and was listed as a dependent. I also was not even on the lease of the apartment, as I was too young when I moved in (aged 16) to sign anything with them. I only lived there for 6 months (16-17) before moving in with my grandparents. I've just turned 20 this month, but I moved back out on my own again, when I was 19.|||a contract with a minor is not legally binding if they new you were underage an pursed this matter you or your parents can bring a suit against charter but not the credit agency|||you have to take some of the blame for this you know.. you knew you signed the contract and you knew what it meant..

WHY did you not return the DVR when you broke up or left.?

When will Charter Communications add The Weather Channel HD to its St. Louis market?

Maybe never! I hate Charter they are so far behind, there are so many channels that they need to offer, there are also a ton of channels that they need to get in HD! I would say call them to find out but you will never get through to them and even if you do you will get transferred or get someone that speaks very little English!|||GO. STLOUIS|||gfdhfgfgh

Can i sue charter communications?

My father is paying for our our charter internet service that is not working we have told them multiple times something is wrong with our internet and they keep coming out here to "fix it" and they say nothing is wrong. Recently my dad went to pay a bill and a new girl in their looked at our signal and said i can look at your modem now and tell you something is seriously wrong with your internet and she said shell send someone out here again and again till they fix it. It still is not fixed and the internet keeps dropping when im playing online games.|||You potentially have a very good suit. Charter promised to provide a service and is refusing to provide the service and refusing to fix the problem. At best it's a breach of contract. At worst, it's a violation of the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act (MMPA).

Neil

http://www.smithlawfirm.com/|||On a side note if you are getting dropped while playing Xbox live I would call and ask for a tech and explain you keep getting dropped on Xbox live. Because I had this issue and it annoyed the hell out of me until I did some looking and found out it is a resource allocation problem with your router. (Mine was netgear)

PS. That is just charter, I called and cancelled and told them they are the Antichrist!|||Just UPGRADE to Wii-Fi; it's awesome through Charter. I've had Zero problems. IF you play lots of online games its just BETTER. I think their phone connection sucks but we don't use our land line much these days any way. It's just a waste to Sue. You can just get other internet service IF you are extremely unhappy!|||No, you can't sue them as you're not the account holder. Your dad would need to get in contact with charter to discuss some sort of compensation. If he didn't have a contract with them and he continued to renew each month, he would have no case.|||This would be a ridiculous lawsuit.

Help with refund from Charter Communications.?

Okay i have a special plan with phone, internet, and tv for 79 bucks a month. Charter offered me a cable box for the tv and said they wouldnt charge me anything. However the bill i got next month suggested otherwise. Instead of being charged 79 bucks i was charged 139. I called them back and the operator said he would fix it. However on the bill after that i saw no change. Is there anyway i can get a refund? Had this happened to anyone else? What should i say while talking to the charter operator? Please try and help me.|||When you call again, don't speak with the operator, ask to speak with the manager. Make sure you get the manager's name. Describe your situation and get confirmation that they are going to correct the situation. Try to find out how exactly when they refund will be processed or applied to your account. If you can, record the conversation so you have it for your records. After the phone conversation, write a letter to customer service (check their web site for the address) and detail the nature of your complaint, the action promised by the company, the time and date you called, and the name of the manager you spoke to. This should get you the best results.|||Would you expect anything else; it's a cable company.

Charter communications modem turns off then turns on randomly ?

I connect to a wireless network from my home router. It's been working fine for

a long time but for a past few days it's been acting up.

My internet will work for 2 or 3 minutes, and then I'll lose the connection.

When I try to diagnose I'll get an error message "A cable is not plugged into the

network adapter "Local Area Connection".

If I go back to the router, unplug it then plug it back in, it'll work for a few

minutes and then go out again.

I use Charter internet, and a Netgear Cable Modem Gateway CG814GCMR.

Pleeeease help. I already tried replacing my hardware with a new router, it didn't work. I also switched the ethernet cords with another one, that didn't work either. But the hardware change DID make the internet last in longer intervals. Now it cuts off every few hours.|||It is your modem, not your router or ethernet cables. Call Charter and demand they replace it for free since it is faulty and if they say that won't replace it because it is a router problem then tell them to send someone out to verify it. Your modem is faulty and isn't able to keep a steady incoming/outgoing connection with the server and keep you on the internet.

Charter Communications - I have a "beef" - do you?

I am in the Los Angeles area and as a long time Charter customer continue to have a series of problems - are you a customer also? Can you relate to to any of these issues? Did you find any solutions?

*Picture breaks up into little squares and freezes, several times per day

*Video and sound are out of "sync" on some channels

*24 month price guarantee on the Bundle only save me $16 month

*Cable, internet and phone can all go out together - from time to time

*Cable box is slow to change channels, it seems

*Customer service moved outside the USA

There may be more issues but I can't remember them all. Many thanks.|||I'm in Long Beach and really like Charter from 1998 when I first got it until about 2006...

Then they went down hill and I was SO GLAD when FIOS moved in.

It's been a few years now but if I had had another option, I would have moved to another service (can't use satelite in my place)

The customer service was horrible. No authority to make any decisions/provide discount for bad service. CS was in Singapore and the VIOP phone lines were horrible; you could barely hear the person with all the static on the lines.

FIOS has had it's own problems. For the first 12+ months I never received a correct bill. But they were easy to work with and constantly giving me free stuff to make up for the problems.

Charter Communications and Wireless Network help?

I am trying to set up a wireless network in my home. I have a Motorola Surfboard 5101 DSL Modem that Charter provided me when I began service, and I want to connect my new Netgear WGR614 (v7) so that I can have wireless internet in my house.

Although I have installed the router correctly, the internet light blinks and I am reduced to 'little or no connectivity'. I called Charter to see if my router and modem combo was incompatible. They said no, but instead told me that the type of service I pay for does not allow wireless. I have been told that I need to upgrade in order for me to set-up a wireless network.

Are these guys yanking my chain? Isn't internet just... the internet? Or can these types of companies keep me from setting up a wireless network with a click of a button?|||Its not that they can block the router, it is that they are suppling a internet connection to your computer and using your MAC address to verify a connection.

In your routers setup under networking you will see the option to change the default IP address and the Default MAC address. Leave the IP address alone and what you want to do is clone your computers MAC address in the router. This will make ATT think the router is your computer and then your internet sharing will work just fine.|||As long as your router is compatible, you should be able to use it. Charter will supply you access to the internet via the modem that has been provisioned to your account. Charter should only be charging you to go wireless if you are renting their router. Use of a customer owned router is free.

I would suggest checking your settings again and also try calling Charter once more to see if someone can walk you through the correct set up. You could also ask Charter to send a tech to help you troubleshoot your install, but there might be a service fee for that.

Charter communications is blocking magic jack calls to my Mom house. LEGAL?

Two people in our family have magic jack and live in different states. We have both talked to her on a daily basis for a year until 3 days ago. Now we can call anywhere, EXCEPT her house....just a busy type signal. Charter is definitly blocking and after confirming with our ISP and magic jack, their conclusion was a port block by Charter. Isnt this illegal now??|||I would never pay for Charter or any other land line tv or internet service. Get Dish or DirectTV|||Wait a minute... your ISP says Charter is blocking MJ. But if I'm understanding your story, Charter IS your ISP. You have no confidence in Charter, but you put your faith in a $20 device? MJ doesn't use a "port" any different than a web site like Yahoo. It works over the internet. It's Voice over INTERNET PROTOCOL. Charter literally cannot tell the difference between a data packet from your MJ and a packet from your web browser. Do some research before you talk trash.

Have you considered the possibility that there is a problem with your mother's telephone service? Have you called her from a different phone, like a cellular or real land line?

I worked in the cable industry, and in the POTS telephone industry before that, and have more than twenty years experience in telecommunications. (I didn't work for Charter.) Your comment about cable companies pissed me off. You don't know what you're talking about, and that will be obvious to anyone reading your question who has a modicum of knowledge about telephony and/or how the the internet works.|||Confirming with your ISP? Just throwing words around...do you know what ISP stands for? It mean internet service provider...And if you have Charter...they ARE your ISP. Unless you just decided to go with two different ISP's, which is ludicrous. Magic jack is a piece of crap, unreliable phone service. Charter doesn't block ports, and you can usually only unblock them through a router anyways. Which you are most likely using...And they're right. We don't know what ports do what, except for emails, and if you're lucky like me, the PS3 and Xbox ports.|||i would assume that this has more to do with magic jack not paying interconnect or termination fees to charter, and that the trouble lies with magic jack... i would not be so quick to put the blame on charter...

as for the word "port" in the telephone industry, that term is generally used to transfer an existing number from one carrier, or telephone service, to another carrier or telephone service..

Charter Communications broadband slowness?

My Charter Broadband service slowed to a dial-up-like crawl last month. After much useless telephone support and swapping out my router I determined that my leased modem was broken. The telephone technician said that these thing happen because I leave it on all the time and it "gets hot." (With a broken modem I would think my problems would not intermittent though) I went to Best Buy and bought a Motorola modem and I was back in business. Now, it's happening again. Did my new modem get too hot?? Does anybody else have intermittent problems with Charter Broadband speeds going way down? Is there a way to tell if it's a system problem before doing a bunch of troubleshooting? Does anybody really turn off their modem when they're not using it?|||I would check for viruses and adware/spyware on your PC. Try malwarebytes or spybot and do a scan.

Overheating is a problem in alot of places we have serviced, but usually the internet stops responding all together not just slow down.

With the lights on your modem, if you see a constant "Send" light when your not doing anything on the computer I would be concerned.

Good Luck!|||I have Charter Broadband as well and I had that same problem. One modem I could fix temporarily by reseting it (turn it off, unplug it and then plug it back in). But even that quit working. I went through 2 modems and ever since then I always turn it off when not in use. I haven't had any problems since. Not sure if this is much help but it worked for me.

Is Charter Communications trying to rip anyone else off?

We are locked into a contract for a Charter bundle (Cable, telephone, and internet). In our contract we signed up for the basic digital chable package plus the first expanded set of channels (not the premiums like HBO, Cinemax, etc). Even though we could have gotten the premiums free for the first 3 months, we told the Cable guy who made up our contract that we don't want and that was fine.

Anywho, a few months into our service they snuck on the premiums onto our cable and in-turn our bill. So we called, mentioning that we never signed up for the premiums and told them that we specifically asked not to get the premiums. That was fine, they cancelled the premiums and reimbursed us for that previous months bill. Now 4 months after that (which is the present time) all of the sudden we are getting a $130 termination fee for cancelling the premium service.

Again we called up the billing department for Charter and questioned it (we got a fairly snippy customer care representative by the way), while telling them exactly what happened with our earlier billing dispute, yet this time she says there is nothing we can do. Because we cancelled the premium service we are getting billed the termination fee, end of story.

So WTF?! Isn't this illegal on their part, being a breach of contract. They try adding on the premiums even though our contract states otherwise. I remember 10 or so years ago the heads of another cable company (i think it was Comcast, but im not sure) all got in legal trouble something similar...I might be mistaken, but i'm pretty sure that's why we had to switch our cable providers as a kid.

So i am curious, is anyone else having problems with Charter trying to rip them off?

Also, is there any advice on what should be done?...obviously I will be switching to probably either Fios or dare-I-say one of the dish providers *shudders at the thought*...But i mean as a way to fight them from doing this to their customers. ie-Online petetion type thing to let Charter Customers to keep an eye on their bills, etc. I'm definetly down to join a Class Action law suit, but I sure as heck dont have to funds to hire a lawer to fight myself...especially over something so insignificant as cable.|||Caveat emptor. Washington, D.C. (March 4, 2008) -- Charter Communications COO Michael Lovett says his company's cable service offers more "HD choices" than any other competitor.

By comparison, DIRECTV now provides more than 90 national HD channels while Dish Network offers more than 70 national HD networks.

But Lovett says Charter's On Demand menu, which includes high-def movies and TV shows, gives the cable operator an edge over the telcos and satellite.

"Now with over a 150 High-Definition viewing options at any given time, we offer our customers more HD choices than any of our competitors," Lovett said in the investors call. "Our On Demand platform and DVR offering provide the convenience and choice customers.

Charter Communications changed the date on my credit report from 1998 to 2003, its been verified by Equifax.?

It's called reaging an account and is illegal.

Write them a letter, demanding that they prove to you that the date they are reporting as first delinquint is fact.

Just be sure you have your credit report in hand when you do. You might need to prove they reaged the account.

I will just bet they drop it off your report.

Here's the case that led to the FTC declaring this kind of reaging illegal.

The Consumer Credit Reporting Reform Act of 1996 (Title II, Subchapter D, of Public Law 104-280|||First, it's probably a collection agency, not Charter, that listed the item on your credit report.

Negative items can only be reported for 7-1/2 years from the date of first deficiency. If you defaulted in 1998, the item should have already fallen off your credit report several years ago.

This is probably a zombie collection agency trying to sneak the item back onto your file. Dispute it with the credit bureau as being beyond the reporting period.|||If it's not right, you can dispute it (you can dispute anything on your credit report that's not right). If they can't prove to Equifax that their information is right (I think they get 30 days), then they have to take it off.

Charter Communications cable modem?

i want to buy a modem so i dont get charged $5 per month to least the darn thing. i found some at bestbuy that range from $50 - $150. also some on ebay and amazon. i want to know if any cable modem will work with my 3 meg charter highspeed connection. or what specific brands or models would work. then how do i set it up? just hook it up and go, or would i have to register it with charter?|||I do not know about Charter, but most cable modems will work on various cables systems.

The lease fee of $5 per month pays for support of the modem; hardware, and software, and connectivity.

If you own the cable modem and something goes wrong with it you are on your own to resolve and/or replace it.

They also may be unwilling to support connectivity problems.

This doen not seem fair; but there are many manufactures and models and you cannot expect them to know the quirks of all of them.

Here is a list of modems which are compatible to Charter Communications High Speed Internet

(I would advise you to stay away from 3-com equipment. their support is almost non-existant for consumer products)

What modem can I use?

For CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS subscribers in St. Louis, California, Wisconsin, Michigan and TEXAS!!?

I am actually a CHARTER call center agent or a representative who is based here in the Philippines. I do receive calls from the states i mentioned above and a lot of them are not so happy about Charter but there are also some who are really satisfied because we can bundle their package (Cable,Internet and telephone) and they will have great discounts every month.

My question is..

In your own point of view, being a Charter subscriber for any line of business, how would like to rate Charter company in the scale of 1-10.

Expounded answers are best welcome.|||I'm a Tennessee Charter customer (that may poo poo my thoughts, as my state wasn't on the list :) I recently switched my telephone service, after 16years with Sprint/Embarq, to Charter, %26amp; bundled all three services (cable, net, %26amp; phone), b/c of the "discounts available to customers that bundle). ... The first thing that happened - i had to have repair people out here three times, b/c of horrendous noise on my telephone line *(which had never happened with the other company)..finallly got that taken care of, THEN, after being told certain prices were set for these services - when i received my bill - i received a shock - it wasn't the amounts i had been quoted....after over an hour on the telephone this was "handled".... one week later i check the online statement, still wasn't correct, this went on several more times. I've never lost phone service - even in the midst of a huge snow storm years ago, the power was out, but the phones worked. My phone service has been out twice already. (mind you this was for 3 hours %26amp; 5 hours respectively)...Then if all this weren't enuff to have me ranking Charter less than perfect, i receive a letter stating that all services are increasing in price, and the increase amounts are by as much as 23$ in some cases, for one service, my bill will potentiallly increase almost 61$, which is outrageous. I immediately called the 1 888#, and was connected to a very courteous %26amp; helpful agent that was incredibly nice %26amp; understanding. She patiently explained everything she could to me, and assured me that my package discount prices would be honored despite these increases next month, and if for some reason my bill is incorrect next month, just to call. It was really nice to finally speak with someone that was not only helpful but nice. I have to say that Charter gets a 5 from me at this point. It saddens me to say that, but i truly feel that b/c they have a monopoly in my area, their interest in quality customer service is gone, b/c the only choice customers have is to go with a satellite dish. (Interesting question...)thanks|||I actullay love charter i had a few complications with my bill when i first joined but i believe it's the best choice i've made in my life I say 10|||1

Will Comcast take over South Bay Area Charter Communications?

I'm choking under the utterly terrible internet conditions of Charter Communications (worst in the US! Take a bow!). They're under Chapter 11 with Time Warner, Comcast and other companies buying huge swaths of Charter all over the country. One region left in question is the South SF Bay Area (San Jose, Gilroy etc.). I'm contemplating going with Dish TV or waiting until Comcast buys Charter in my area. I'd rather stick with cable but ONLY if somebody is going to buy Charter in South Bay area. Anybody have any news?|||Not being bought out not that I know of...Charter sucks in California and Missouri the most...Great in other places, sucks in others...Same with all other companies...I had a friend that worked at AT%26amp;T call center and got the same kind of calls ("Your service sucks!") I wish I could tell people to just flippin switch or move to a better area...

Why did my charter communications cable box not come with cables that enable HD?

I just recently got Charter Communications. My cable box is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3100 HD. I'd like to know why the cable box did not come with the cables needed to watch HD tv. I dont know the names of said cables all i know is that they are not here. Was i supposed to ask them for it or am i supposed to get it seperately? Any help is much appreciated.

Below is a link of the manual and a Hook-up Diagram of the box.

http://www.myaccount.charter.com/Custome鈥?/a>|||There are two choices for HD cables, (1) HDMI and (2) a set of five component cables. The former is by far the preferred choice, and it's ordinarily purchased separately. You can get one on line for less than $5. You don't need the super-expensive HDMI cable sold in TV stores.

Cable companies sometimes supply the component set with an HD receiver. If you got that (red-green-blue video plus red-white audio), it will work fine. If not, get an HDMI cable.|||Because HDTV is not enabled by cables...it's enabled through the box!!!

I signed a contract with Charter Communications when I was under 18. They are trying to collect. Do I owe?

I live in Texas. When I was 16 I temporarily moved in with my girlfriend (now my ex) for six months. We lived in an apartment, along with her female friend (giggity).

I signed a contract with Charter communications at either 16 or 17. We broke up when I was 17, and I moved to Arizona. I just recently moved back to Texas at age 19 (and I just turned 20 last month).

I live on my own and I tried getting Charter internet. They told me I owe them nearly 800 dollars for not returning a DVR box, and some other random late fees (I guess my ex lied to me when she said she canceled the service after I moved out, and also kept the DVR box).

I disputed this with them, and they told me to take it up with the collection agency. I told them the circumstances surrounding the contract, and they told me to fax them my birth certificate. However, about a week later my grandma gets a letter from them in the mail. I guess they discovered my old Arizona address and re-opened collections, but this time they offered to cut how much I owe by over 50%, telling me I could settle the "debt" for about 400 or so.

I take this as an obvious sign that they realize I legally owe them nothing and want to try and get me to give them money anyway. I refuse to give them any money, as I understand that this type of contract is not legally binding under state or federal law due to my age.

Other factoids:

I was not an emancipated minor.

I was getting money from my dad, and was listed as a dependent, because I was still legally a minor.

I was not even on the lease of the apartment.

I want to file a lawsuit against either Charter of the collections agency, but I keep getting the run around when I call them up demanding they remove the debt. Is it illegal to enter a minor into collections for a debt that is not legally owed?

Can I sue charter or the collections agency for illegally damaging my credit?

I am asking only about the purely legal aspect of this, as the courts don't care about the emotion of it. Am I legally obligated to pay them, and can I sue them? Yes or no, and please go into detail without a moral rant against me.

Thanks.|||Since you were a minor, the contract is invalid, period.|||Your assumption that you are not obligated to pay because you were a minor when you signed the contract is true to a certain extent.

But if you were to read Texas Law then you will be surprised to find out that they can use Rescission to enforce their claim for restitution.

In most contract disputes, a court puts the nonbreaching party in the position he or she would have been in if the contract had not been breached. However, there are times when the court may place the party in the position he or she was in before the contract was executed. Rescission may be selected in cases in which one party intentionally misrepresents a material fact, for example: if one lies on the application in which you did so in being a minor and knowing that you were not legally allowed to enter into a contract.

Fraud is the intentional misrepresentation of an important issue of the contract. The presence of fraud in a contractual proceeding makes the contract voidable only by the party upon whom the fraud was perpetrated (in this case it was Charter Communications)!|||With the lenght of time on the outstanding bill. It should ahve been written off as bad debt. You do not have to pay, but they would like you to pay. Legally you were underage and no responsible. That is the mistake of the company.

You will be liable for a high deposit.

Used to proecss credit applications for people.

I would also file a dispute with the 3 credit agencies. Say that you were not legally of age to have the service when you were 16. and this is making a harship on your reporting. WE used to read all the disputes whne people got hit with high deposits. Sometimes you can reduce a deposit when a circumstance as yours was noted.|||I completely side with the above poster. I too had once initiated a contract with Fingerhut for a small card when I was 16. When I did not pay for the card it went to collection with two agencies. I used the online feature on ... I think experien? to post the dispute. They removed it from my credit. I just realized it was on the second one and will be contacting them for removal.

I am not sure if you are a fan of court tv shows, such as Judge Judy/Peoples Court but you can learn a lot of little useful things on them, such as a minor under 18 cannot enter into an agreement with a cell phone, credit card agency, ect and if the agency does issue them credit, it is their responsibility not yours.|||You are legally obligated since you knowingly contracted for and used their services. Age has nothing to do with it. Take the 400 deal and clean up your credit history. Anyone can sue for anything, but collecting is another ball game.

Does anyone have some information on the stocks Charter Communications (CHTR) AND WEL (BOOTS AND COOTS)?l?

Charter Communications HD Channels?

Charter Communications has recently announced adding "The Weather Channel" in HD, and that they will have 100 HD Channels by end of 2007. When will Charter make 鈥楾he Weather Channel HD鈥?available to St. Louis, and will it really add 80+ channels within the next 45 days to its HD line-up to bring it to 100? I鈥檝e asked Charter several times, but their customer service is very poorly informed by their own management and they don鈥檛 have any answers.|||I work for charter com. We have been informed that the 100 plus HD channels will go live by the end of 2008, not 07. By the end of 07, there will be an additional 10 -20 HD channels launching. Direct TV is stating that they will have 100 HD channels by years end. They are including channels that don't currently exist on their 100 HD channel list. More power to them if they can pull it off. The more HD channels, the better.

Charter does not give a S***T about customer service, or just SERVICE for that matter. Outages are rampant, the lines are answered by people in third world countries who can speak as much english as my 4 year old sister, and the lies they tell are endless. What can we do about it? Nothing. Because Charter is the only high speed internet CABLE provider in so many areas. So unless we want to downgrade to DSL and forget the life we've become accustomed to, I guess we can just sit back and keep paying our bills because GOOD LUCK if you try to get credit for the months your internet has been down or intermittent. Good Luck again if you want to cancel your charter membership for their shitty services, its gonna cost you another 250 bux. What make and model of cable modems does charter communications use?

They use many different types. My modem is a Motorola. You can use any brand of cable modem. They charge you to set-up your modem to use on their network. All of my friends have different brands and they are all on Charter Pipeline. Some brands I have never hear of like Wystar.

Charter Communications refused to give me what they promised me. What can I do?

I got a notice on my door from Charter Communications saying that I was receiving a signal and they would come out and cut it off. Feeling as if I was being accused of stealing cable when I had only a converter box and antenna, I marched down to the Charter guys and told them I have only a converter box and don't like being accused of stealing cable. The man said to relax and that he wasn't accusing us of stealing cable. Then, he tried to talk us into getting Charter installed. We told we didn't know that Charter was kinda expensive compared to other options and the man then proceed that if we took Charter, he'd give us a free month of cable to start us off. So, that reason I decided to take Charter instead of weighing my options. I then got my bill in the mail and I was billed for the first month (in advance). I was pissed that I was lied to (false advertisement) and so I went online to Charter. The woman on there apologized and said there was only so much that Online Support could do and gave me a number to call. So I called the number and they refused to do anything about the false promise they made me to get me to take their cable. She said there was nothing they could do. When a company makes a promise, they have to carry through with it. I was lied to, tricked, and deceived by a company so close to going under, apparently they're desperate to get customers no matter how big of a lie they have to tell to get them. It's false advertisement and fraud, which is against the law but when they told them that, it did no good. We just got stuck on hold for like ten minutes. I'm reporting Charter to The Better Business Bureau for fraud. And, I plan to take legal action. Just not sure how to go about it. So what should I do to get Charter to either give me what I promised or take legal action?|||just stop whining about legal action. they likely have to bill you a deposit month....give them one more month to straighten it out|||You're going to spend thousands (or more) in legal fees over $75 worth of cable? Yeah, sure.

It is neither false advertisement (there was no advertisement, genius) nor is it fraud (which YOU would have to prove). Calm down. The company is not bound by what some idiot salesman says as you have no proof. They probably think you're trying to get something free. If you don't like it cancel the service and stop the legal threats...it's embarassing.

The moral of the story: Get it in writing.|||You can cancel your service. As for the free month, unless you can prove he said it, you're stuck paying for it. As for taking legal action, you'll lose.
