Charter Communications cable modem?

i want to buy a modem so i dont get charged $5 per month to least the darn thing. i found some at bestbuy that range from $50 - $150. also some on ebay and amazon. i want to know if any cable modem will work with my 3 meg charter highspeed connection. or what specific brands or models would work. then how do i set it up? just hook it up and go, or would i have to register it with charter?|||I do not know about Charter, but most cable modems will work on various cables systems.

The lease fee of $5 per month pays for support of the modem; hardware, and software, and connectivity.

If you own the cable modem and something goes wrong with it you are on your own to resolve and/or replace it.

They also may be unwilling to support connectivity problems.

This doen not seem fair; but there are many manufactures and models and you cannot expect them to know the quirks of all of them.

Here is a list of modems which are compatible to Charter Communications High Speed Internet

(I would advise you to stay away from 3-com equipment. their support is almost non-existant for consumer products)

What modem can I use?

Charter High-Speed Internet is compatible with most cable modems, including:

Wish Yahoo would let me add a proper front page post to this thread as it's data has become outdated...

|||any brand should work as long as its a CABLE modem and not dsl and check the speed variety on the box and u could probably ask a worker at the respective store...if i was u id stay with the one they provide u becuase if it breaks they replace it not u yes the 5$ is annoying but if u keep ur service for more than 1-2 yrs itll save u i had a non charter modem work fine for a 2 month period then died|||Most Cable service providers will provide a list of compatible brands/models on their web site, or just call them.

Once you get your new modem give your provider a call so they can 'Provision' your modem. No it won't work without it (been there dun that)

Good Luck
