Charter Communications just sent me a bill for $957. Past due was only like $356, now "Adjusts" increased it.

They came to pick up all of my boxes including DVR, etc. The only thing left were 2 remotes.

I had a past due amount of around $357 which I intended to pay but now it went to collections agency according to the bill, and under adjusts all of a sudden is added $657. Surely this is not the collections bill? And surely they will settle for less? My credit is already going down the drain because I lost a major source of income and so am in debt to credit cards.|||It appears they added the fees in case they were unable to re-posses the equipment.

When they came and picked it up did you get a receipt for the equipment?

Once the cable equipment is returned, they usually adjust the amount due back to the original balance, minus any fees for picking up the equipment.|||A collection agency will ususally settle for less. Find out if you return the other 2 remotes if they will reduce it anymore. Also, pay them by money order only and tell them you don't have a checking account. If they get that info then its an asset for them to go legal on you and get a judgement and then one day seize all your money out of your bank account. No assets, no legal... Pay them money order only, never tell them where you work and call them from a pay phone and order a cease of all calls to you, your neighbors or relatives. I happen to know all of this because I use to work for a collection agency. Try to settle or if it gets too bad with your credit going down the drain then go to google.com and type in legalhelpers.. good luck (Charters not that great anyway!)
