When I plug a charter communications ethernet cord for Internet it's says unidentified network. How can I fix?

I went to friends house and he has charter Internet and a desktop computer with vista. The Internet is connect to a motorolla modem. I unplugged the ethernet cord from his computer into my laptop running windows 7. It doesn't connect to the Internet. I go to network and sharing and it says unidentified network not accesible. Please helP!|||there are couple of ways to do this do the following:

1. go to the command prompt if you are using windows 7 just go to start and on the search bar type in cmd. you should have the command line and type in ipconfig /release after you released the IP type ipconfig /renew if this one doesen't work do number 2

2. unistall your network adapter to do this go to start %26gt; right click on computer and go to properties %26gt; and click on device manager it should be on the left side of the window %26gt; when you are on the device manager look for network adapters and highlight the network adapter that having the issue and right click and click unistall after unistalling the device restart your computer. when the computer boot it should be automatically reinstalled again. if this one doesent't work do number 3.

3. update your network adapter's driver. you have to know the model number of your laptop and search it on google. or you can just go to the website of your laptop's manufacturer and search for the network driver with the appropriate laptop model and operating system|||not compatible systems???????

or maybe you need DRIVERS?
